Edible, Ornamental, and Rain Gardens

This Northampton backyard garden is laid out to encourage walking in a ray-like manner from a forthcoming screen porch to harvest vegetablesberries, and enjoy flowering perennials that attract pollinators.

The yard is underneath  two mature black walnut trees, (trees that put out a toxin via their roots and leaves), so the beds are raised and separated from the native soil with burlap and paper, and the plants are chosen for their tolerance.

One of the gardens is sunken to infiltrate storm-water off the driveway and store snow. A fun project all around, with great people to work for and an enthusiastic hardworking crew that moved a bunch of soil!
